“The Ocmulgee Archaeological Society is pleased to partner with the Fort Hawkins Board
again this year. We are excited about this opportunity to interact and educate the public
on the amazing archaeological resources in and around the Macon area. We have many
great activities planned and I hope to see you all there.” – Ashley Quinn, OAS President
This year’s Fort Hawkins Archaeology Day will feature: artifact identification; pottery making, primitive skills, and Native American stories and games sessions; a Fort Hawkins Tours; and historic interpreters. Bring your picnic blankets and have lunch on the lawn.
“Fort Hawkins is more than just an old fort, it is Macon’s birth place and was the site of numerous dealings with the Creek Indians, including military campaigns and treaties. It is our physical connection to past history, so I encourage everyone to come.” – Johnny Mack Nickles, Fort Hawkins Board member
