The Plunkett Gallery is proud to present, Adjacent, an exhibition that will feature a broad array of approaches and media that blend art and math.
“Mercer prides itself on its interdisciplinary education. The art show on display will be an excellent example of blending two disciplines—mathematics and art–frequently thought of as reserved only for those born with talent in the areas. Artists have been influenced by Mathematical concepts throughout time. Math and Art have a rich history that is intertwined, a relationship that continues to this day. You and your students are encouraged to come view this show and read the detailed accompanying statements to become inspired to unleash your creativity in an area you may have felt closed off to you. Many of the mathematicians involved only hesitantly dipped their toes into the field of art, but continued to do so as they felt their hearts begin to sing. Many of the artists in the show are inspired by the beauty and complexity of mathematical concepts. Please bring your students and show them how they can stretch their creative wings through art and math!” – Carolyn Yackel and Craig Coleman
The show is being held in conjunction with the Southeastern Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America in Macon, GA at Mercer University. (March 10,11)
