First Baptist Organ Dedication

The service of dedication on April 29th at 4:00 p.m. will include organists from around Macon, to include Gerald Carper of Highland Hills Baptist Church, Jonathan Poe of Christ Episcopal Church, and Anne Armstrong of First Baptist, as well as include the congregation’s Chancel Choir conducted by Stanley Roberts. A reception will follow.

The new A.E. Schlueter instrument is significantly larger than the previous organ at First Baptist – both physically and in scope of supportable repriotoire. The sound is of American eclectic tonal design that will support the great organ works by luminaries such as Widor, Vierne, Bach, and others. The organ contains 51 ranks of windblown pipes (approx. 2,900 pipes) divided over three manual divisions and pedal.

Joan S. Godsey is an accomplished and recognized musician who has served at First Baptist Church of Christ as organist, choirmaster, Sunday School teacher, and deacon. Joan’s deep devotion to the music ministry of First Baptist, combined with her commitment to the Macon community, is one of many reasons that her family’s generous gift of the A.E. Schlueter organ to First Baptist is dedicated in her honor.
