Learning to Etch (Sep. 10th)

Here’s an easy way – and I do mean easy – to dabble in metalsmithing without really getting your hands dirty. Ok, you will get your hands dirty but only in the good way. You will learn a design driven approach to etching metal thorugh using multiple masking techniques: oil based marker, vinyl, P-n-P, and photosensitive paper as resists on metal.

We will be using ferric chloride to initiate the chemical process that etches the metal. Instructor Sara Henton of Eclectic Chick will provide designs for you to use but you also might want to have some ideas in mind if you want to draw something simple.
