Director and artist Ai Weiwei immerses himself among the displaced, migratory people of Syria and other nations in crisis to create this detailed and heartbreaking exploration of the global refugee crisis. “Some documentaries find multitudes in fixed locations. Mr. Ai instead takes an ambulatory approach and wanders the globe, traveling to Africa (Kenya), Southeast Asia (Malaysia) and the Middle East (Israel, Jordan) as well as to North America and many ports of call throughout Europe.
