Tameka Phillips is a first generation American, a daughter of Belizean immigrants to New York City. She began drawing at age 3 and, inspired by her family’s Central American roots, developed a curiosity about cultures from other parts of the world and an interest in global patterns and motifs. This interest led her to the study of fashion design and textiles at Georgia Southern University where she began incorporating fashion design elements into 2D mixed media works and sculpture. Ms. Phillips is a visual arts teacher in the Macon public school system. She has shown in group shows in Macon and Gallery West is thrilled to be hosting her first solo show. This show stays up thru March 31.
