The Celluloid Closet: A Screening and Discussion with Dr. Patrick Brennan

Join us for a screening of The Celluloid Closet (Rob Epstein et al, 1995), followed by a discussion led by Dr. Patrick Brennan.

The Celluloid Closet is a documentary film directed and co-written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The film is based on Vito Russo’s 1981 book The Celluloid Closet: Homosexuality in the Movies, and highlights the history of how Hollywood films have portrayed LGBT characters. This film is rated R.

Dr. Patrick S. Brennan, is a Professor of English at Middle Georgia State University, where he specializes in film studies. He earned his B.F.A. from New York University, in Film and TV Production. He then earned his M.A. from the University of Florida, and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. His research and creative work background/interests include Film History, Film Analysis, Film Theory, Film and Literature, Film and Society, Cultural Studies Theory.
