I’m Hagar Baruch, I am an Israeli-American living in the US for the past 16 years. I grew up in Alpharetta, GA, and I started at SCAD in 2018 because of their unique UX Design undergraduate program that is not offered in any other university in the United States. I’m currently in my senior year at SCAD, finishing my undergraduate with a UX major and a Game UX minor.

My work consists of product and UI design focused on usability and aiding users in current obstacles that hinder their work. As a UX Designer, it is our job to create products or shape currently existing products to their user base. Many products are designed with a general user in mind but many tend to ignore a large amount of their users with variety of disabilities. This has become my focus, designing for disabilities and more “niche” markets, as some companies would call them. Three of my major products have surrounded lesser spoken about circumstances that a large portion of Americans go through. The first is a website designed to aid with the grieving process. We all experience grief at different stages in life and in different ways. Many people struggle with speaking about their grief with others and many cannot afford to get professional help. With “PATH”, users can learn about their grief and speak about it with professionals and others in a virtual environment. My second design is “Foster”, an app for foster parents to connect with their local foster community and resources to improve their skills as foster parents and gain the support system they lack in the current foster system. Lastly, and my most recent design, is “Cocoon”. Cocoon is a portable isolated workspace where migraine sufferers can go while at work to tend to their migraine while maintaining productivity. Nearly 14% of the entire world population, including children, experience migraines, and yet it is a minimally researched disease with many societal misunderstandings. To aid such a large population, my group and I designed a product that would both help the migraine sufferer care for their migraine and maintain their work life balance with such a debilitating disease. I’m proud of the work I have been able to do so far, and without SCAD’s resources and amazing students, I would not have been given the chance to design and progress.
