With new Music Director Jerry Steichen leading the orchestra in the Macon Symphony Orchestra’s 40th Anniversary Season, the opening concert will begin with the stirringly beautiful but little-known Balakirev’s Overture on Three Russian Folk Songs, followed by Russian and Finnish masterpieces. Internationally acclaimed soloist Spencer Myer will perform the world’s most beloved piano concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat minor, Op. 23. The concert will culminate with Sibelius’ Magnum Opus, Symphony No. 2, Op. 43.
