4-Week Beginner Glass Blowing Class

4-Week Beginner Glass Blowing Class

Presented by Blazing Paddles Studio at Blazing Paddles Studio

Week 1: Equipment and Material Basics
You will begin by learning about safety and the equipment around the studio.
How does the equipment work and how do you use it? Once comfortable with the equipment and tools you will learn the art of the gather. Gathering is a term used to describe the removal of glass from our furnace in order to create something.
You will then learn the basics of your hand tools. Since glass is hot we cannot touch it with our bare hands. So, there are a variety of tools which work as an extension of our hands to manipulate the glass.
At the end of this class you will have some items in the kiln and ready for pick up at your next weeks class.

Week 2: Bubbles and Cups
In this week we move forward, using the knowledge from the previous class, you will be gathering glass on a blowpipe and learning how we get air into the glass. This knowledge will allow you to blow all the possible forms your mind can come up with.
Once you have a bubble in your glass, A cup is the first thing you will learn. It is the most basic functional form, and will be the building block for everything you make.
At the end of this class you will have a couple cups in the kiln which will be ready for you to pick up at the next weeks class.

Week 3: Color and Form
Now that you have learned the basics, lets add some color to your experience, literally!
You will learn how color is added to the glass. We will be working with fritted glass which allows easy application but also a large variety of designs to be created.
We will then focus on creating other shapes. (vase, bowl, cup, paperweight) it is your choice.
At the end of this class you should have a couple new, colorful forms in the kiln ready for pick up at your final class.

Week 4: Getting Creative
All of your hard work and effort will pay off.
Today is the day of experimenting and creating whatever you want (within reason)
Create a bowl if you like, or a vase, or maybe you want some flowers to give to friends
The sky is nearly the limit.
At the end of this class your work will cool down and be available for pickup the following week from our Showroom
