f you ever wondered what will get a child to stop playing video games and go outside, we’re here to help. Children will love getting their hands dirty on a beautiful afternoon in Central City Park. Fired Works offers Clay Workshops for Children on Saturdays during Fired Works. Professional ceramic artists will work with children ages 5-12 teaching them simple pottery techniques. Children will be able to create their own, original works of art to take home. Workshops last one hour, and class sizes are limited to 20 students. There are two class time slots, 10am and 11am. Reservations are required. Clay Workshops are free thanks to generous support from the Elam Alexander Trust and Lizella Clay Company. Fired Works began as a local pottery show and has grown to become the largest exhibit of functional and sculptural pottery in the state of Georgia.

The nine-day exhibit and sale includes special events such as Clay Workshops for Children, Corks and Clay workshops for Adults, artist talks and more. The mission of Fired Works is help Southeastern ceramic artists and potters show and sell their work. Fired Works promotes the rich history of pottery in Georgia and its connection to the history of the Ocmulgee River Region. People have made pottery along the banks of the Ocmulgee River for thousands of years and local potters continue this tradition today. In fact, the oldest piece of stamped pottery ever found in North America was found at the Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon.

Fired Works is a program of Macon Arts Alliance and is supported by numerous sponsors and community partners.
