Using a process of cameraless photography, Nevada-based Artist Nolan Preece explores environmental themes in his contemporary landscapes.
Using a process of cameraless photography, Nevada-based Artist Nolan Preece explores environmental themes in his contemporary landscapes. From spatially ambiguous atmospheres and intensely patterned grids to visionary biologies and impacted archeology, signs of human intervention in the landscape are combined with abstract chemical painting. Nolan’s prints challenge the viewer’s awareness by directly condemning the degradation of the air and water through hydraulic fracturing and the emission of carbon and other substances into the earth’s atmosphere. Through an innovative chemical painting process, Preece adapts traditional cliché-verre photographic techniques to achieve a wide range of complex, fascinating effects that are then digitally enhanced.
