Artist Statement by Joe Adams

I love media! I constantly create new effects using diverse materials on canvas, panels and paper. Whether accidental or intentional, many of the serendipitous experiments have delightful results, and I embrace those happy chances of fate. I often incorporate found objects along with my signature scribbles. Many patrons tell me they are drawn to my bold use of color, so I try not to disappoint them. “Let’s Mix It Up” celebrates my experimental painting approach by applying it to mixed media.

“I am inspired by artists from all periods, and there are no hidden messages in my work. I simply create what I love. Painting makes me happy. I hope that my joyful spirit is expressed in the art I produce, bringing happiness to every one who experiences it.”

Joe Adams Artist Bio
“A lifetime,” Joe Adams states in response to the question – “How long does it take you to create a painting?” Making and building since he was small, Joe is a natural-born artist. Just after college and a brief stint as an art teacher, he put down his paintbrush to build a business career and raise a family. Yet, his love for art remained constant. Evelyn, his wife and most ardent agent, urged him to start painting again about 15 years ago. Continuing his passion, he now paints from his studio in historic downtown Macon. He credits much of his artistic influence to his time away from the easel—whether traveling or advocating for historic preservation—and to his professor and mentor Sam Hutto.
A Macon, Georgia native and graduate of Mercer University with a double major in art and biology, Joe taught at The Youth Development Center in Macon and then at Robins Elementary on Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.
An Abstract painter at heart, his recent work is more characteristic of Action painting – never shying from bright color and unexpected textures and layers. Joe is a process-oriented painter; he is not concerned with recreating the world, but instead with the qualities of the paint and the manner in which it is applied. Paint splashes, richly diverse color, and layered textures are definitive qualities of a Joe Adams painting.
Joe does not ignore the intrinsic beauty of his work. An architecture and history enthusiast, he and his wife have restored several historic homes, thoughtfully decorating with modern and traditional art. His paintings, unabashed in their modernity, feel perfectly at home alongside antique furniture and modern accessories. His work is unfettered and complementary of diverse décor styles.
Joe has exhibited work throughout the Southeast, including shows at Mercer University, The Summit One Gallery and CK Swan in Highlands, North Carolina; The Gallery at Macon Arts Alliance and Art On the Avenue in Macon; The Left Bank Gallery and The Parker Gallery on St. Simons Island, Georgia; dk gallery in Marietta, GA; dk2 gallery in Homewood, Alabama and Swoox in Atlanta.
Joe is currently represented by CK Swan, Highlands NC, Previews Interiors and the Macon Arts Gallery in Macon, Swoox in Atlanta, Maison in Birmingham, Modify Atl in Smyrna and Brock Moran in Charlotte NC. Joe has been featured as an Emerging Artist at Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, and his diverse appeal lends his work to show houses in the Southeast and private and corporate collections across the United States.
