2012 Festival Award Winners – Film Synopsis
"Ghost of Old Highways" : Pursued by an army, a man hunts down previous versions of himself amidst the purgatory of a fractured consciousness. Set against the distorted dreamscape of the
Civil War, the film explores the struggle to reconcile the choices one must make while being chased by past choices.
"Grow!" : Across the U.S. there’s a movement of educated young people leaving cities to take up agrarian life. With college degrees, fed up a broken food system, they aim to grow clean, fair food. Filmed on 12 farms in Georgia, “GROW!” looks at a new generation of sustainable farmers.
"The Jockstrap Raiders" : “The Jockstrap Raiders” takes place during WWI in Leeds, England. A group of misfits are excluded from the war due to various abnormalities. Threatened by the invading German Kaiser’s army, they become a team and overcome their deficiencies to save Britain and the world.
"The Kook" : Fa belongs to an eccentric religious sect. Before her group’s scheduled departure from Earth, Fa discovers that their leader, who appears as a hologram from another galaxy, is
crossing signals with a man nearby. Fa sets out alone to get to the bottom of this perplexing miscommunication.
"Kwik Fix" : “Kwik Fix” is the fast food restaurant. It’s about people we all know but hardly ever acknowledge, and a man with a dream no one else shares.
"Margaret & Evergon" : In 1999, the celebrated Montreal photographer Evergon took a remarkable series of nude portraits of his mother, then 80 years old: black and white images that embodied
not the infirmities of old age, but a timeless strength, dignity, even majesty.
"Missile Crisis" : While the Cuban Missile Crisis threatens America, divorce looms over the Shaw family. Thirteen-year-old Miles Shaw must protect his little brother Danny from the fallout, and he
has it all figured out. The mission? To blow up the Soviet missiles. The weapon? Model rockets.
"Suburbia" : An unsettling tale from the urban sprawl, about a man trying to make sense of what he’s heard and seen.
"A Wake" : After the mysterious death of their director, members of a formerly renowned theater company reunite for his wake. The widow welcomes the thespians to her country house where old rivalries and jealousies erupt, exposing a myriad of secrets and lies.

"Who Pays the Hitman" : Waiting alone at a run down community hospital, late on a Saturday night, Jack Higgins, an ex-special forces veteran and now government contract assassin has a potentially lethal spider bite on his swelling trigger finger with a hit scheduled for that very night.
