When East Meets South: Woodblock prints and sculpture by Dr. Roy Ward

When East Meets South: Woodblock prints and sculpture by Dr. Roy Ward

Presented by Macon Arts Alliance at Macon Arts Gallery

Roy ward is a retired physician, seasoned traveler and lifelong artist. The exhibit explores two distinct aspects of his work as a printmaker and sculptor. The majority of his career is focused on woodblock prints of Southern imagery, often the result of his travels throughout the community making house calls. Ward has studied Japanese woodblock printing throughout his life and has used that expertise to create exquisite prints of the Georgia countryside. In recent years, he has expanded his work into sculpture. His unique interpretation of cats, using flat pieces of tin, cut and folded to give the illusion of depth, harken back to his work as a printmaker. There is a clear and consistent love for the aesthetics of Japanese woodblock printing in all his work which transcends both subject matter and medium.
