Finnish Artist, Tea Mäkipää, Lecture at Mercer University

Finnish artist, Tea Mäkipää is coming to Mercer to give a lecture about her art on, Tuesday, November 13 at 6:00 in the Engineering School lecture hall (room SEB 110). Tea’s artworks have been featured in many prominent international art exhibitions around
the world, most recently in the Biennale Mediations at The Centre for Contemporary Art in Pozna, Poland. She is from Lahti, Finland, but now lives in Leipzig, Germany and was educated at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, and the Royal College of Art, London.

Her artworks investigate the relationship between nature and technology, loneliness and city life, consumerism and reactions to it, such as hope, fear and ignorance. Instead of using traditional art materials, She makes her art from things that best suit and reflect the ideas she is trying to communicate, such as her own stance on ecological concerns and issues regarding social and ethical responsibility.

Catwalk Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2006);
Expert, Jerwood Installation commission in Wapping Project, London (2003).
