The i love macon campaign debuted its commitment to Macon in January 2012. And this January, the City of Macon will commit – and encourage the public to commit – to the campaign. To make it official, City of Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and Bibb County Commissioner Sam Hart will proclaim i love macon Day on January 8th at 10 a.m. at Rosa Parks Square.
(Rain location: City Council Chambers, City Hall)

In 11 months, the campaign has collected 7,000 of its goal to reach 10,000 love proclaiming signatures in 12 months. The City of Macon seeks to help the campaign reach its goal by January 31, 2013. The morning’s presentation will include behind-the-pledge information from the i love macon founders, testimonials and a proclamation from Mayor Reichert and Chairman Hart and opportunities for all to sign the pledge and pick up an i love macon decal. More events for city and county involvement with the people’s campaign will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I am proud to sign the pledge and support this campaign proclaiming our love for our community as we strive to build a vibrant, safe and hopeful place that we call home,” said Chairman Hart. “With the passing of the SPLOST, folks will see major improvements in infrastructure and facilities, such as our new fire stations, animal welfare, juvenile justice center and parks and recreation centers all over the county.”

“I certainly want to add my support for this campaign by signing the pledge, working every day to improve our communities, continuing to talk about how much I love Macon, and encouraging others to sign the pledge and take a public and positive stance about their city,” said Mayor Reichert. “To have some of our young leaders take up this cause and provide a public and positive discussion about life here gives me hope that we can continue to come together and make Macon the best city it can be.”

i love macon is a grassroots effort created by Macon Magazine’s 2011 Five Under 40 Young Leaders to boost civic pride and positive attitudes about Macon. The mission, supported by the entire group of young leaders from the last 11 years, is to start and continue positive conversations about the city we love with a focus on the question, "What do you love about Macon, Georgia?"
