A First Friday Lecture, slide show and book signing by Nik Nerburn, author of “The Grand Terrace Photo League.”
Documentary storyteller Nik Nerburn presents his book “The Grand Terrace Photo League”, at Gallery West in downtown Macon, Georgia, on March 1st during Macon First Friday. Collaborating with the residents of an apartment complex in Worthington, Minnesota, Nik Nerburn photographed the daily life of the working families who call this building home (many of whom are recent immigrants from East Africa and Central America). Through an after school youth photography club, family photo restorations, and a free family portrait studio for building residents, the Photo League was an experiment in collaborative, compassionate storytelling. Come hear Nik talk about using photography in service of community, telling stories that enlarge the common life, and the new Americans making a life in the heartland.
Nik will present a slideshow of pictures, share stories, answer questions, and have books available for purchase.
