Macon Film Guild Presents: "Luce"

Presented by Macon Film Guild at Douglass Theatre

Luce (USA, drama, 109 min., rated R for language throughout, sexual content, nudity and some drug use) Ten years ago, Amy (Naomi Watts) and Peter (Tim Roth) adopted the seven-year-old Eritrean orphan Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), who was being raised to be a child soldier. Now on the cusp of graduating as one of his American high school\\\’s academic and athletic stars, Luce writes a paper that disturbs his teacher (Octavia Spencer) and ignites a series of culturally charged questions about who the \\\”real\\\” Luce is. “The film is sleek and shadowy, benefiting from the fact director Julius Onah chose to shoot on celluloid and driven by stellar performances across the board. When it comes to gauging another person’s sincerity, our eyes are the most dependable lie detectors we have, and so Onah lays out the evidence we need to decide what to make of the movie’s title character. ” – Variety
