HomeGrown - Black Dance History Series

Presented by HomeGrownArts and Hayiya Dance Theatre, Inc. at Online/Virtual Space

This Black History month celebrate the cultural influence of black dance throughout history with HomeGrown in a 3-day online series of inspired movement and engaging conversation. Trace the African origins of hip hop, jazz, tap, and modern dance with top artists from NY and LA, and HomeGrown dance instructors.

Each day begins with a session in West African dance led by Macon’s own Pilar Lowden of Hayiya Dance Theatre followed by sessions in contemporary ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. All classes will feature conversation with the artists about the history of these dance techniques and the weekend culminates in a final panel discussion with our featured guest teachers about the influences of black dance in art, entertainment, and social justice throughout history.

Don’t just read about Black history this February. Dance it out.

West African Dance sessions are open to all ages and levels. All other disciplines are intermediate level.
