TOPIC: CIRCLE OF LIFE
“It moves us all,” but The Circle of Life is more than just a catchy Disney song. With more empty chairs round kitchen tables than ever after the devastating losses of the pandemic, the cyclical change to a new presidential administration, and the promise of spring just around the corner, it begs the question — where does it end? The ying-yanged nature of growth and withering, birth and death can leave one in a tailspin.

It is that sacred understanding that every story has a beginning and an end that we explore this month, knowing that dissecting the life cycle is a delicate balance that requires you to zoom out with the most panoramic of lenses. The big picture of vulnerability through the years and the links of opposing forces — those are the tales we will share at Storytellers. For every successful hunter, there is the hunted. For every breath we take, someone may be taking their last breath.
Our featured storyteller will be Chris Smith. Graduating with a BFA in Fine Art Photography from California State University Long Beach, Chris has been a professional photographer for almost 15 years. Five of those years he was based in Southeast Asia as a photojournalist, travel writer, photography tour leader, and managing a documentary center. He has now been based in Macon, Georgia for three years, working as a freelance photographer and contract photographer, along with teaching digital photography at Wesleyan College.
