TOPIC: COMING HOME
It’s not easy to leave the nest, spread your wings, and learn to fly. But in some ways, the migration back home can be the harder journey. Sticking the landing and planting your feet back firmly on the ground you’ve tread so often can reveal some missteps and wobbles. Everything is familiar to you, but it’s not quite how you left it. It’s the “Did Mom and Dad repaint MY room?!” feeling.
Or perhaps it’s the opposite — you’ve totally immersed yourself in foreign territory and reinvented yourself, only for a smell to waft by or a song to play and then, wham, you’re right back home. It’s the security blanket you cloak yourself in as armor against the tough realities of life. The Granny’s soup kind of comforts. You can come home even when you’re halfway across the world. How do you nest? These are the stories we’re going to discuss.
Our featured storyteller is Danny D. Glover, who has more than 10 years of experience in local, state, and federal politics. Glover, who is the 2016 National HBCU Outreach Director for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, is an alumnus of Tennessee State University, is utilizing organizing skills he mastered as 70th SGA President, to bring politics and civic engagement to students and working millennials in a way like never before seen in modern American politics.
