Kurinuki Workshop

Kurinuki Workshop

Presented by stARTup Studios at Startup Studios

Ceramic artist, Noah Miller is offering an unique handbuilding experience
that focuses on a traditional Japanese technique called ‘Kurinuki’. Embracing
the art of imperfection, Kurinuki was part of the Wabi Sabi movement that
unlocked a sense of freedom in artistic expression. The idea of the forming
process is to create something that looks alive, containing the soul of the
creator inside the object. This technique starts with a solid block of clay,
and is carved into something functional or sculptural.

Over the course of 2 hours the students will apply a multitude of
texture, surface decoration, and carving techniques so each piece will have its
own personality.

The students will then use underglaze to provide any coloration they
desire, and the instructor will apply a clear glaze after the pots are dried
and fired.

*All clay work takes two kiln firings to complete the
process. This takes about 3-4 weeks. You will receive an email notification
once your work is ready for pick up.

Safety Measures

*Masks are required during the class.

*We have multiple hand wash stations through out the studio.

*Hand Sanitizers are available at the door and at the bar.
