Each 3.5 hour class runs once a week for 8 weeks

Syllabus

Week 1 (Oct. 10th): Equipment, Tools, Safety and Your first gather of glass

Basic introduction to equipment, tools and safety. We will
then dive right in to learning how to gather glass and begin becoming familiar
with the material. Each student will spend time getting comfortable with
gathering glass out of the furnace. Once comfortable you can move on to practicing
making Jack Lines in the gathered glass and placing them in the kiln.

NO CLASS OCTOBER 17th STUDIO CLOSED

Week 2 (Oct. 24th): Solid Shapes

Learning your shapes are the basis for any design. Once a
student knows how to create the basic shapes of glassblowing (sphere, cylinder,
cube, cone, inverted cone) they can combine them to create one of a kind works
of art. You will also get the option of adding color inside your shapes to make
paperweights.

NO CLASS OCTOBER 31st HALLOWEEN

Week 3 (Nov. 7th): Blowing a Bubble

Moving right along, we will teach how to put air into your
glass. By the end of this class you will be taking your second gather and start
making your first cups.

Week 4 (Nov. 14th): Introduction to Color

We will start by practicing what we learned in the previous
class making cups. Students will then learn about adding color frit to your
piece and will be tasked with making 4 multiples of one cup design by the end
of the next class.

Week 5 (Nov. 21st): Make it MULTIPLE!

This class will be reserved for making your matching cup
set. Half of the class you will work on your production and the second half you
will be learning to assist another student in making their cups.

NO CLASS NOV. 28TH THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

Week 6 (Dec. 5th): The Bowl

Now that you have practiced your bubble and shape making,
you should have the skills to form the glass in any way you want. For this
class we will be making bowls.

Week 7 (Dec. 12th): The Vase

Now we learn how to make you glass TALLER. The vase is an eloquent
form that compliments any room.

Week 8 (Dec. 19th): Final Class

Using the skills and techniques you learned through the past
7 weeks, we will spend the day making any objects you want from the previous
several weeks. Use this time to get creative and take risks.
