GA Women in BBQ: Keepers of the Flame, Fan the Flames of Change

Presented by Wesleyan College at Wesleyan College

Join us for our latest Transforming The South Lecture Series as we explore gender in the Georgia BBQ industry. Join Professors Craig Pascoe and James Wellborn from Georgia College’s Global Foodways Studies Program, as they share their documentary and discuss the historical role of women in the production of BBQ in our state.

From Professors Pascoe and Wellborn:

‘We are filming a mini-documentary on two women pit-masters/BBQ restaurant owners—one is located in the northeastern part of rural Georgia and the other in Garden City on the outskirts of Savannah. Our focus is on the gender issues surrounding women pitmasters in a largely dominated male world, the entrepreneurial opportunities that operating a BBQ place provides women seeking to better themselves financially, and the difficulties encountered by these women to maintain their business during the pandemic.’

We will finish with a BBQ lunch for the first 100 people in attendance. We look forward to seeing you there!
