Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra

Presented by Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at The Grand Opera House

Symphony, redesigned with you in mind. The first season of the symphony was anything but ordinary. From hip-hop to Haydn, from Otis Redding Foundation students to beloved classical composers, the orchestra was the place to be. The Grand Opera House was filled with the joy of music, the power of community and Mercer University’s McDuffie Center Young Artists collaborating with musicians from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Jeffrey Turner, conductor
Dvořák Serenade for Strings in E major, Op. 22
Townsend School of Music Concerto Competition Winner
Mozart Symphony no. 41 in C major, K 551, “Jupiter”

The season concludes with the always popular Townsend Concerto Competition winner, along with popular favorites in the canon. Dvořák’s elegant Serenade for Strings was composed in just two weeks, but has enjoyed a far longer run in popularity. Then hear “Jupiter,” so named due to the stunning scope of Mozart’s longest and most complex work, to wrap up a heavenly year of music.

Major funding for the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra is provided by the Peyton Anderson Foundation.
