Film Screening with Historian and Documentary Film Producer, Dr. Malinda Maynor Lowery (Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina)

Film Screening with Historian and Documentary Film Producer, Dr. Malinda Maynor Lowery (Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina)

Presented by Middle Georgia State University School of Arts & Letters at Middle Georgia State University - Arts Complex Theatre

Join us for a screening of Dr. Malinda Maynor Lowery’s (Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina) short films Real Indian (1996) and Sounds of Faith (1997), followed by a Q&A with Dr. Lowery.

REAL INDIAN (1996) is a unique look into the fascinating and complex world of Lumbee Indian culture and makes the viewer question perceptions of Native Americans, as well as the meaning of our own cultural identity.

Through archival images, powerful field recordings, and narration that explores the importance of music in her own family, Lowery uses music as a mechanism for revealing the strength, resiliency, and creativity of the Lumbee tribe in her 1997 documentary SOUNDS OF FAITH.

This event is funded, in part, through the generous support of the Ocmulgee Mounds Association.
