Memorial Day

Presented by Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy at Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy

General John A. Logan called for a nationwide day of remembrance On May 5, 1862   – “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.

154 years later we are still celebrating the brave men and woman that made sacrifices that ensured our freedom and way of life. We call this day Memorial Day and we invite the community to pay tribute to a veteran’s grave through decoration or coming out to enjoy the beauty of our almost 125 acres with your family.
