 Macon, GA

On November 5, 1912, the Saturday Morning Music Club was founded by a group of twelve women who recognized the need to form an organization dedicated to furthering the cause of music in the city of Macon. The club’s first president was Mrs. James T. Wright. In the winter of 1912 the club organized its Annual Christmas Carol Sing, and on March 6, 1913, the club held its first open meeting.

In 1938, the meeting time of the club was changed from Saturday morning to Thursday morning to meet the convenience of its members. The club changed its name to Morning Music Club in 1939. For 100 years, members of the club have supported music appreciation in the Macon community, and have aspired to perpetuate the club’s motto: "Music is love in search of a word" through their on-going work.
