Macon, GA—Treat yourself to Art. Pedestrians, cyclists and automotive travelers received a delightful treat on Tuesday, October 31 at 10 AM, when a new piece of public art is installed on the upper end of Mulberry Street Park. Macon Arts Alliance and local patron, Carey Pickard, partnered to secure a generous grant from the Downtown Challenge of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to procure a vintage American bronze sculpture that will enhance the green space located across from Omni Healthcare located at 841 Mulberry Street. The stately stag, measuring over five feet in length, will be permanently installed on a rustic granite slab topping an existing empty plinth by Jeff Ellis of Clark Memorial.  Named Art, the bronze beauty will represent the area’s indigenous wildlife as he towers over the small diagonal park, proudly displaying an impressive sculpted rack with a nod to Macon-Bibb’s expansive natural resources. Landscaping and planting services of 85 Japanese kerria, tough-but-graceful, spring flowering, deciduous shrubs, were provided by Macon-Bibb Parks and Beautification. Engineering and project coordination services were provided by Bill Causey. The sculpture project was inspired by the Macon Action Plan and funding for the Downtown Challenge was collaboratively supported by the Peyton Anderson Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The public and press are invited to join Macon Arts Alliance for the unveiling of the new sculpture.
