Washington Park Water Features

This water feature imitates that of a small creek. The water source originates on top of the hill near the Washington Park Library and cascades down a series of waterfalls into a meandering creek that winds throughout the lower sections of the park. The creek then empties into a large fountain/reflecting pool.

Partnering with Synovus Bank, Carlos brings familiar and representative imagery to reflect Macon’s history and vibrant diversity. The organic beauty of the Ocmulgee River and middle Georgia’s wildlife, a figure representing the original indigenous people of Macon-Bibb County, and nods to Macon’s place as a significant part of rock n’ roll history—all come together in Mulberry St. Lane.

William W. Wadley Statue

This work was done by Robert Cushing in 1885. William Wadley was President of the Central Georgia Railroad. He started working as a blacksmith, then moved to Savannah and worked for six years on Ft. Pulaski. In 1844 he built a bridge across the Oconee River for the Central Georgia Railroad. From there, he was promoted to road master for the company and then General Superintendent from 1849-51. The New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Rail Road offered him a Superintendent position in 1858 and he moved his family to Louisiana and afterwards he went on to work the Vicksburg and Shreveport Rail Road and became president of that company. During the Civil War he was a Colonel in the Adjutant General department of the Confederate Army and managed railroad transportation for the south. Fun Fact: Wadley bought a 1360 acre plantation in Monroe County near Crawford Station. The plantation was originally called Cotton Place, but after Wadley and his family moved in the name of the railroad station was changed to Bolingbrooke. 1993 Condition: May need cleaning

Sculpture Piece created with wood and steel by Christopher M. Lavery in 2015. Located on the southeast side of Tattenall Square Park. Current State (as of 2020): It has rusted over, distorting the original color, and seems to have been vandalized with the word “Smile!” spray painted on it.

WWI memorial

The memorial was erected in 1937. It is in the shape of an obelisk. There are etchings around the top of the memorial. The base has three narrow steps around it. The memorial is dedicated “in honor and loving memory of those brave men and women of Bibb County, Georgia, both the living and the dead, whose heroic service and supreme sacrifice in the cause of liberty during the World War (A.D. 1917-1918) and gave us the full meaning of patriotism. This memorial was made possible through private subscription of loyal friends in Bibb County where Mrs. William Oscar Kinney was the General Chairman. 1993 condition: good.
