Ross Street Crosswalk
Artist: Mama Hawk Draws, Erin Hawkins
Date created: August 2019
In collaboration with Bike Walk Macon, three artists and myself were selected to to paint four crosswalks at a prominent intersection in Macon, Georgia. I decided to go with an abstract map of Macon that consisted of a grid of burnt orange and golden yellow. When I added the Ocmulgee River, a nice organic pop of blue, the design was complete. Three assistants and I spent about 10 hours installing my design—who knew you needed to have so many coats of paint to sustain continuous car traction?!
