At the First Baptist Church of Christ we think our name is as unique as our congregation, and it dates to the very beginnings of our fellowship.
Back in the olden days, many churches had the tag “of Christ” at the end of their name. At our founding we were known as the Baptist Church of Christ in Macon, Georgia. When another congregation assembled, we became the First Baptist Church of Christ. Through the years most churches dropped the “of Christ,” but we kept it. We hope that it’s not only unique, but also instructive; reminding us whose church we aim to be.
Our church values the Baptist way of congregational polity, where each church is responsible for it’s governance and leadership. But we also find fulfillment through association with other churches, Baptist and other. Our primary denominational affiliation is the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship on both the national and state level, and we are proud to be in partnership with many other local churches of a variety of denominations and backgrounds.
