My name is Pam Pinkston and I run Southern Queer Folk Hikes.  I lead safe and inclusive hikes in the Middle Georgia area, including mindfulness and art hikes.

My art hikes are designed to help spotlight local artists while showing the connection between mindfulness, art, and the outdoors.  The next art hike is  March 30 at 10am at the Wesleyan Arboretum – sketching with Casie Trace.

I was motivated to start these hikes because after spending 10 years in the Navy, I left with some mental health issues and I found that hiking helped tremendously both physically and mentally.  I wanted to share space with people that had the same or similar issues as I did.  I found, though, that I didn’t look like your typical hiker and realized that that not only would be a barrier to others but also not everyone has access to the outdoors.  I began SQFH out of a desire to provide a safe space for others to experience the healing powers of nature and break down the barriers to access to the outdoors.

I have a background in psychology, photography, and attracting animals of all kinds.  Imagine Snow White with the mouth of a sailor who stops for cool mushrooms, moss, and ferns.  I believe the outdoors is for everyone and every body.  All hikes are donation based and open to everyone.  Contact me if you would like to collaborate on a hike.
