"A Ghost Story"

Presented by Macon Film Guild at Douglass Theatre

For Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:00 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

A Ghost Story (USA, drama-fantasy-romance, 92 minutes, rated R for brief language and a disturbing image) Not a horror movie, but a poetic study of love and longing across space, mortality and time. Oscar winner Casey Affleck plays a man happily married to Rooney Mara (Oscar nominee for “Carol”). That is, until the day he suddenly dies. He doesn’t go anywhere, though. He lingers at the house in the form of the stereotypical man-in-sheet image of a ghost, watching his wife grieve, then leave, and then staying put as new people besiege his earthly home. “Mr. Affleck and Rooney Mara live together in a ranch house in the middle of somewhere… The couple’s brief time together sets a hushed, poignant tone…Just when you think you’ve cracked the film’s circumscribed logic, it opens up and goes wild in ways at once too wondrous and too preposterous to spoil… ‘A Ghost Story’ is suspenseful, dourly funny and at times piercingly emotional.” — New York Times
