For a Breath of Ecstasy - Choral Music Concert

Presented by Choral Society of Middle Georgia at First Baptist Church of Christ

For a Breath of Ecstasy – Choral Music Concert on November 17

Macon, GA —Heinrich Heine, the great German poet said, “When words can express no more, music begins.” When you combine the compelling words of poets with the beauty and vibrancy of music, you have choral music that moves the soul like nothing else can.

The Choral Society of Middle Georgia and The Mercer University Chorus will present “For a Breath of Ecstasy” on Sunday, November 17th, 4:00 P.M. Dr. Stanley Roberts, Director of Choral Studies of Mercer University Townsend School of music, is the choral conductor and accompanist is Jonathan A. Poe. The selections for this concert give musical breath to the human experience of love, joy, yearning, hope and peace which are woven into a choral tapestry for transcendent reflection.

Composers include Z. Randall Stroope (The Cloths of Heaven), David Dickau (If Music Be the Food of Love, Stars I Shall Find), and James Q. Mullholand (Life Has Loveliness to Sell). Their music gives life to the beautiful poetry of Williams Butler Yeats and Sara Teasdale with all the yearning and hope that love brings.

Two pieces, The Promise of Living and Stomp Your Foot, are choruses from a truly Americana work by Aaron Copland “The Tender Land.”

Composer Andrea Ramsey incorporates sacred harp tunes “White” and “Long Sought Home” in a very moving piece titled Travelin’ Home. “Home, sweet home, my long sought home, my home in heav’n on high.” Peace in the Valley was written by Thomas Dorsey, considered the father of gospel music. The arrangement by Ed Lojeski gives new beauty to this well-loved hymn. Antiphon, by the great composer R. Vaughn Williams is a celebration of praise with “Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing: My God and King.” Peter Anglea is the composer of Jubilate Deo. Dreams come in many different forms. Although Mr. Anglea (pronounced Angel) makes his living in web development, he uses his experience and education in music as he also emerges as a young composer.

“Let music never die in me! Forever let my spirit sing!” These are powerful words, a deep breath of ecstasy for music, from The Awakening by Joseph Martin.

The concert is Sunday afternoon, November 17th, 4:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon. Tickets are $15 to the general public. Mercer students and faculty are free with Mercer ID.
