Deitrah Taylor

I am Deitrah J. Taylor, owner of Joyeful Time Travler LLC. I am a dramaturg and public historian. I practice public history in museums, theatres and other cultural organizations. My practices center Sankofa and an Afrocentric lens. I hold a Master’s Degree from Georgia College and am currently based in middle Georgia. I love to travel and learn new things.

I enjoy work with institutions and the general public through historical methods (research), storytelling, and story preservation. I have conducted historical research and documentation, genealogy, public talks, dramaturgical presentations, collections care for museums, theatre and cultural organizations. I am a budding filmmaker with experience with oral history and documentaries.

I seek to engage the public viewing the past as active and crucial to fully experience the present and create a bright future through historical research, public talks, classes, dramaturgy for theatres and playwrights, education and collections care for museums, theatres and cultural organizations Building on the principles of sankofa, community, and  joy.

I appreciate meaningful conversation and genuine connection. I love getting my caffeine from good Matcha lattes and/or hot chocolates. I am a casual gardener. I have a tendency to go on  historical/contextual tangents.
